What We Can’t Do

The relationship between a consultant and client is a two way street. The consultant is responsible for providing useful information, models, skills, and perspectives, and for playing the role of an agent provocateur–helping to surface, diagnose, and engage lurking, subterranean issues.

But a consultant can never do the actual hard work required to fix a problem, or facilitate change. Said differently, we can help you with some concepts and skills, provide an argument as to why they’re relevant, and provide ways of building the skills and applying them to your key adaptive challenges–but we cannot force you to learn or apply them, and we cannot do that work ourselves. That is your choice and challenge.
